Bringing Green Jobs to VA
30+ years of inaction on climate solutions has brought us to a moment where we must take urgent and immediate action to save our planet because if we have nowhere to live then nothing else matters. This country is filled with innovators and hard workers who can come together to reduce our use of fossil fuels, preserve our oceans, forests and air, and incentivize other nations to join us in this fight. Not only will these actions work to protect our most vulnerable and preserve a future for our kids, they offer economic opportunities for our district as we move to the leading edge of green energy technology and manufacturing and bring good paying jobs home to Virginia.
Improving Healthcare Access & Affordability
Every American should have access to affordable and reliable healthcare regardless of where they live, the color of their skin or how much is in their bank account. No one should suffer, die or declare bankruptcy because they weren’t able to afford or access a doctor. The solutions to our broken healthcare system are complex, but we must build a system that helps people gain access, reduce costs, and improve outcomes so that no one has to go through what far too many families have experienced.
Working Toward Racial Justice
Racism is real and it is systemic. If we are going to move forward as a nation we must first recognize the realities of systemic racism in our country today and take action to reform the systems that perpetuate it. We must also find real and tangible ways to repair the damage that was done to communities of color. It’s simple, when something has been damaged you do what you are able to do to repair it and make it right.
Investing in Rural America
The barbershop where Josh got haircuts as a kid is boarded up (not that he needs a barber anymore). The school in his town closed the year he graduated. The grocery store is abandoned – the funeral home, restaurant and gas station – all have been shuttered and none were replaced. As we plan for a post pandemic future there is opportunity to build broadband and remote work environments, to bring good paying jobs in green energy manufacturing and infrastructure, and to fix our healthcare infrastructure so that every one of us has access to a doctor when we need it. Rural communities feel left behind because they have been – now is the time to reinvest in those communities.
